Welcome to Week 21 of Freedom Homeschooling’s Letter of the Week preschool curriculum!

If you are new to the Letter of the Week curriculum, please start here, for information, the supply list, and the free 185-page downloadable workbook that accompanies the curriculum.

Week 21: Letter Q Activities

Week 21 of our Letter of the Week preschool curriculum focuses on the letter Q and the number sixteen. In Week 21, your child will learn about quilts, quokkas, quacking ducks, and more. This week also reviews shapes.

Letter Q Activities: Day 1

  • Sing the alphabet song with your child.
  • Learn about the letter Q on Starfall. On each screen of this interactive activity, your child will need to click the letter Q, wait for the animation to play, or complete the activity to get the green arrow to appear. Then, he/she will click the green arrow to go to the next screen.
  • Show your child how to write an upper and lowercase Q, and have him complete the worksheet on page 101 of the workbook.
  • Watch As Quiet as a Mouse. Encourage your child to sing along.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Letter Q Activities: Day 2

  • Watch Captain Seasalt and the ABC Pirates “Q” Island cartoon.
  • Show your child how to write the number 16. On workbook page 102, have him/her trace the 16s and use a dot marker to mark sixteen boxes in the ten frames. You may want to place something under the worksheet to protect your table, because the dot markers tend to soak through paper.
  • Practice counting to sixteen with your child using blocks, beads, or other household objects.
  • Watch Ms. Coralie read Q is for Quokka by Jean Claude.
  • Watch As Quiet as a Mouse and sing along.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Letter Q Activities: Day 3

  • Watch As Quiet as a Mouse and sing along.
  • Watch Mimi read Quentin Quokka’s Quick Questions by Barbara deRubertis.
  • On workbook page 103, help your child trace and write the letter Q. Read the words under the pictures to him/her.
  • Read Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary from page 10 of The Real Mother Goose.
  • Optional: Choose an activity, a recipe to prepare together, or a snack from the list of additional activities near the end of this page.

Additional Letter Q Activities

Letter P Review

If your child has completed all the Week 21 activities, and time allows, you may want to spend some time reviewing Week 20, which covered the letter P. However, if you do not get a chance to review Week 20, it is okay. Week 25 of the Letter of the Week preschool curriculum will review weeks 20 through 24.
