How to Pronounce Favorite in Spanish

Pronunciation is a vital aspect of language learning, so let’s take a moment to focus on the pronunciation of the word favorito/a in Spanish.

It’s not the most complicated word to pronounce, but let me give you some hints to make you sound like a native Spanish speaker.

favorito /fa.bo.ri.to/

Break it down into syllables: fa – bo- ri – to

Start with the /fa/ sound, similar to the English word “far.”

Then, pronounce /bo/ as in the English word “boat.” Yes! The letter v in Spanish sounds more like an English /b/ and not /v/!

Next, say /ri/ as in the English word “reef.”

Finally, end with /to/ similar to the English word “toe.”

Put it together: /fa.bo.ri.to/. Stress the second-to-last syllable, /ri/.

If you want to say favorita, the feminine version of the word, there will only be a slight difference in the final vowel.

You have to follow the same steps as above, but when you reach the last syllable, instead of pronouncing /to/ as in “toe,” pronounce /ta/ as in the word “taco.”

Remember, Spanish pronunciation may vary slightly based on regional accents, but these guidelines will provide you with a solid foundation for pronouncing favorito/a correctly.

Practice saying the word aloud; with time, you’ll become more comfortable and confident in your pronunciation skills.
