Wordless Books about Jesus’s Parables

While the theme in most of these parables is to obey God’s Word and love others, we MUST BE VERY CAREFUL to avoid sending the message to our little ones that good works can earn a right-standing before a holy God or that good works earn God’s love. We aren’t saved based on our good works, but by faith in the One {Jesus} who died and rose again on our behalf. Hallelujah!

When we understand God’s love for us and trust in what Jesus did for us, we will WANT to obey Him. But before kids understand this, we want to be very careful we aren’t sending a, “just be good” message.

What is a Parable?

It has been said that a parable is an “earthly story with a Heavenly meaning.” Sometimes Jesus spoke in parables to help the people understand as He used examples they would have been familiar with. Other times, He spoke in parables so that only those who desired to understand would.

wordless books about Jesus' parables - teaching page included

Each book comes with a teaching page, which gives you questions you can ask before reading, the main Bible passage the parable is from, teaching points {or make up your own}, and related Scripture you can read as you prepare or as you teach the lesson.

Afterwards, learners can use the wordless books to retell the parable. If you’re using the blackline version, your learners can color the pictures.

What is a Wordless Book?

Just as the name implies, a wordless book is a book without words. Instead, the story is told mainly through the pictures. The main goal of these wordless books is to help you teach God’s Word to your learners.

What are some Benefits of a Wordless Book?

1.Wordless books help build comprehension skills. By looking at the pictures, young readers are inferring how characters feel or what must have happened in between one picture and the next. They learn to ask questions and even predict what might happen next.

2.Wordless books build oral language skills, background knowledge, and vocabulary. As you’re “reading” the books, talk about what you see in the pictures. Build background knowledge and vocabulary as you point out what’s happening in the pictures.

3.Wordless books can foster imagination. As learners look at the pictures, they can create their own story. What did the characters say to each other? What were the characters thinking? What will happen next?

4.Wordless books can give kids practice in retelling stories in order. After looking through the book several times, encourage your learner to retell the story back in order.

5.Wordless books can be a springboard for creative writing. Learners who are ready to write can take a wordless book and write a story based on the pictures.
