We are almost finished with my daughter’s 10th grade homeschool high school and made a few changes that I thought I would share! My daughter is my final homeschooler, so hard to believe! My older boys have graduated from our homeschool. My oldest is working in the robotics field and my middle son is currently in college. Homeschool high school worked for us!
I am always open to change, even mid-homeschool year. This is what we did this year and the changes have been in place for a couple of months now and we are both happier!

ENGLISH
- Writing: Here’s a funny story for you. I had planned to start with the 10th grade writing chapters from Study.com this year for a solid review but the day she started she reminded me she had already done this!!! We took some time off from writing 1st semester and I had originally planned on doing IEW Elegant Essay but have since decided to use IEW Structure & Style Level C This was mostly her choice. She wanted to go back and circle through the entire main curriculum one more time because she felt like she wasn’t as solid of a writer as she wanted to be. She used IEW for many years prior to this but asked for a break last year. I love that she matured and realized it actually did work for her even if she didn’t *love* it.
- Reading: We went straight into the short story unit from EIL 10. She didn’t love this but it worked for my goals and it is complete. We are reading Screwtape Letters but are not using the literature guide from 7 Sisters, I ended up creating my own. She is also currently reading Fahrenheit 451.
- Grammar: I bought a simple grammar workbook from Amazon for daily practice and she used it for a couple of months but then stopped. We are picking back up with IEW Fix It Grammar as a simple review.
- Vocabulary: We got a vocabulary workbook from Amazon and used this for a while but have decided to change gears. She has recently started Critical Thinking Co. Vocabulary 1 and we both like this approach.
MATH
We have used Teaching Textbooks from the beginning and it continues to work for Algebra 2 this year! My daughter loves this curriculum and is very solid in math, I haven’t had to step in at all this year. I mentioned to her the thought of possibly using a consumer math for next year from a different publisher and she said, “NO way!” She wants to do geometry next year and even Pre Cal with TT. I love that it works for her and has worked for our entire family all the way through.
SCIENCE
You may remember I gave her full choice over which biology curriculum she wanted to use by showing her many different biology options. She ultimately chose – Devotional Biology, from Compass Classroom. I am so happy to say that we are loving it. It started off slowly, a bit too much like a Bible study (and I LOVE the Bible) but once it got going with the science heaviness I love how it is taught.
HISTORY
She really wanted to use textbook this year so we went back to Notgrass World History! She is happy with this and has already said she plans to use Notgrass for any other history courses she takes in high school.
ELECTIVE
I still plan on having her complete Human Development just like my boys did, we just haven’t started yet. This might be an 11th grade subject at this point.
