Boost Your Child’s Spanish Skills with These Family-Friendly Games Alexandra H. Homeschool Spanish Academy

If you’re raising your child to be bilingual, you already know that language is about more than words—it’s about connection. And for many families, the deepest motivation to learn Spanish is rooted in love: love for grandparents, heritage, and meaningful conversation across generations. Let’s give that a boost with these Spanish Fluency Games.

But what if Abuela lives far away? Or can your family only connect through Zoom? The good news is that Spanish fluency doesn’t have to wait for an in-person visit. In fact, those video calls can become powerful tools for building your child’s confidence and communication skills—when you use the right approach.

Spanish fluency games kids can play with Abuela, even over Zoom, are a beautiful way to turn virtual visits into joyful, bilingual experiences. These games aren’t just for fun. They’re designed to build vocabulary, encourage full sentences, and deepen cultural connection—all while keeping your preschooler engaged and Abuela smiling.

Preschoolers learn best through repetition, movement, and emotional engagement. Zoom calls often struggle to hold their attention unless they’re interactive. That’s where Spanish fluency games come in. They give your child a purpose for speaking and listening in Spanish—especially when the person on the other end of the call is someone they adore.

With just a little structure and some creativity, your child can turn weekly calls into fun, low-pressure opportunities to practice Spanish with a fluent speaker who truly cares about their progress. And for Abuela, these moments are more than a language lesson. They’re a chance to bond, laugh, and share her heritage.

This simple “Where is it?” game is perfect for screen sharing. Abuela holds up several objects—like a spoon, a toy, or a book—and names them in Spanish. Then she removes one or hides it offscreen.

Your child has to guess what’s missing using full sentences: ¿Dónde está la cuchara? or Falta el libro. This game encourages vocabulary recognition, memory, and complete sentences, all in an interactive format and while enjoying some bonding time.

The classic “Simon Says” game works beautifully over video. Abuela gives commands in Spanish, and your child follows along.

For example, Simón dice: toca tu cabeza, or Simón dice: salta tres veces. If Abuela doesn’t say Simón dice, your child has to stay still. This game helps with listening comprehension and action verbs while allowing for playful movement—even in a small space. Grandma will love this fun, loving session!

This Spanish version of “I Spy” is great for describing objects. Abuela starts with Veo, veo algo que es… and describes an item on her screen or your child’s.

Your child guesses using Spanish clues: ¿Es rojo? or ¿Es la planta? You can rotate turns to let your child describe too. This game helps with colors, shapes, and forming questions.

Your child picks a toy or object before the call and prepares a few sentences to describe it in Spanish. When it’s their turn, they show it to Abuela and say things like Este es mi dinosaurio or Me gusta porque es verde.

Abuela can ask follow-up questions, like ¿Dónde lo conseguiste? or ¿Cómo se llama? This turns conversation into a two-way exchange and promotes fluency through storytelling. This game is perfect for bonding and sharing some of the week’s insights.

Singing familiar Spanish songs together helps build vocabulary and pronunciation. Abuela and your child can sing classics like Los Pollitos, La Vaca Lola, or even Spanish birthday songs.

They can take turns choosing songs, and your child can be encouraged to lead the chorus or fill in missing words. Songs create rhythm, repetition, and connection—all essential for language development.

Set up a pretend store on either side of the call. Abuela pretends to sell items and your child has to “shop” in Spanish: Quiero una manzana, por favor or ¿Cuánto cuesta?

This role-playing activity helps children practice practical vocabulary, social phrases, and numbers while building confidence in real-life language use.

Spanish fluency games over Zoom not only help your child practice speaking—they also preserve cultural bonds and family closeness. The connection they build with Abuela through play will stay with them for years, just as much as the language they’re learning.

These simple, engaging games can turn once-passive screen time into moments of bilingual growth and emotional connection. And when combined with consistent language support, they become a key part of your child’s Spanish learning journey.

While games with Abuela are a beautiful way to keep Spanish alive at home, guided support from a native-speaking teacher can help accelerate your child’s progress. At Homeschool Spanish Academy, we specialize in one-on-one classes for preschoolers that combine structured fluency building with fun, personalized instruction.

Your child will thrive in a nurturing environment that complements everything they’re already learning through family conversation and play.

Spanish fluency starts with family—and grows with intention. Let’s make every Zoom call a step toward connection, culture, and confident communication.

“It’s great being able to interact with native speaking people and having a conversation with them not just doing all the work on paper. It’s also an amazing opportunity to speak with native Spanish-speaking people without having to travel to a native Spanish-speaking country.”

“Getting to know wonderful teachers who care about me and my growth in language and education. Evelyn Gomez and Erick Cacao are two of the most extraordinary people I have ever met, and talking with them in Spanish at the beginning of classes is always so fulfilling and greatly contributes to my happiness, joy, and wellbeing.”

“I love that my children have the opportunity to speak with a live person. They get to practice Spanish in a 1-1 setting while improve their speaking, writing and reading skills during their lessons. HSA is a great way to learn Spanish for all ages! My children are 6, 9 and 11. My oldest two (9 and 11) have been taking classes with HSA for almost 2 years now. They love seeing their teacher each week. They understand the importance of learning several languages. I’ve seen them grow and learn with HSA. I’m excited to see how they will improve the more classes they take. I highly recommend them. You can’t bet learning and speaking with a live teacher. I’ve tried other programs. It’s just not as motivating.”
