Free Online Math Practice
Repetition and practice are key to learning math skills and memorizing math facts. Traditional worksheets can provide this practice, but they often come with a significant drawback: the lack of immediate feedback. Without timely corrections, kids may continue to practice incorrect methods. This is where online math practice shines. By giving instant feedback, online platforms help students correct mistakes in real time and allow them to understand concepts more thoroughly. In this post, we’ll explore several websites that offer free online math practice. These resources cater to a wide range of grade levels and math topics, ensuring your child gets the practice they need while enjoying an interactive and responsive learning experience.
XtraMath
XtraMath is an online math fact fluency program that helps students develop quick recall of basic math facts. After the child masters addition facts they will move on to subtraction, then multiplication, and finally division. ExtraMath sessions are less than 10 minutes long and should be completed daily to build fact fluency. Students begin the program with a placement quiz broken up into short segments over the first few sessions. After that, each day when they log in, they will have practice activities and a progress quiz. During the practice activities, called Race the Teacher, the student is challenged to answer the problems faster than the teacher character and to see how many correct answers they can get in a row. When students finish an operation by achieving fluency in all its facts, they earn a certificate. XtraMath offers both free and paid memberships. The student receives the same content with any of the plans. However, the paid memberships provide additional features such as custom assessments, printable activities, and the ability to have more than five students in the program.
Facts Monster
Facts Monster has online flashcards for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Each set of flashcards has seven levels, spanning from basic math facts to three-digit problems. To build proficiency in facts and computations, the website challenges kids to see how many flashcards they can answer in two minutes.
GeoGebra
GeoGebra provides practice problems for algebra, geometry, number sense, measurement, operations, statistics, and probability at the 4th through 8th grade levels. The problems are organized by topic. Within each topic, the problems are divided into upper elementary and middle school levels. Each problem allows the student to attempt it three times. The first two times a student misses a problem, the system will give them a hint. If they miss it on the third attempt, it will display the correct answer with an explanation. In addition to these practice problems, GeoGebra offers interactive exploration lessons that help students learn math concepts.
Math World
Math World is a learning journey in which kindergarten through 6th grade students practice math skills while learning about continents, countries, and cultures worldwide. Kids “travel” through the various levels of practice exercises displayed on a world map. The exercises have themes that coincide with each continent, such as kangaroos in Australia. If you prefer to have your child practice specific math concepts, you can display the exercises in a list format rather than the world map. You can also fill out this form to request offline access to the program. After you submit the form, they will send you a link to download the software at no charge. This unique option is excellent for families who don’t have reliable internet access.
A+ Click
A+ Click has math and logic problems for 1st through 12th grade. The problems are organized by grade level and topic and focus on understanding, spatial reasoning, and problem-solving rather than math rules and theorems. When a student misses a problem, the website briefly explains the correct answer. The student must correctly answer five consecutive questions to progress to a higher level.
BetterMult.com
BetterMult.com was developed by a dad who wanted to help his daughter memorize multiplication facts. The website later expanded to include addition practice, too. Before your child begins a multiplication or addition practice quiz, you can select how many seconds they are given to answer each problem, the number of times they’ll be asked each problem, and whether you want the problems presented in order or randomly. You can also turn off specific problems so your child can focus on the math facts they need to practice.
Math Games
Math Games provides practice problems for Pre-K through 8th grade math skills. The problems are grouped into broad categories. The specific types of problems available are organized by grade level within each category. It is free to do practice problems but the website also offers a paid subscription with additional features.
AAA Math
AAA Math provides practice problems for many kindergarten through 8th grade math topics. Users can sort the practice problems by subject or grade level. The website provides a brief written explanation of the concept before the student begins working on problems. The website keeps track of how many problems they get correct or miss and how long they spend on the topic. The student can print a report of this information, but it is not stored for later. While AAA Math’s interface isn’t as intuitive or visually appealing as others, the large number of concepts it covers makes it a worthwhile option
